I was recently visiting a good friend of mine in Bloomsbury and I came across a very eye catching window display that summed up my mood entirely. In the window of The Printing Centre was a large sign saying “I Love My Job” and I thought how lucky I am to have a job that I love.
But is it luck, hard work or stubbornness that got me here? Probably all three.
It was hard work and luck that generated the seed of an idea that has evolved into JobPage. And it was my vision for something different, plus my stubbornness to never give up on an idea that encouraged my friends and family to tell me, before I had told myself, that I needed to leave my well paid job (with nice pension) to do my own startup full time.
It took me over eleven years working professionally in the Internet industry to start my own online company. Why did it take so long? Honestly I think it was a lack of self-confidence and self-belief, maybe a fear of failure and rejection too. I learned how to turn those fears into calculated risks and I am now ready to face them head on.
I have gained a lot from growing other people’s businesses, and now is the time to put all of that knowledge and experience into practice and build my own future.
It’s been hard work getting this far, and there is plenty more hard work a head of me and my small team. But even with all of the challenges to come, I love this job more than I ever could working for someone else.
Can you honestly say that you love your job?
